For those of you who don't know, the inauguration of our 44th president was this morning. And for those of you who don't know, the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court (who is supposed to know the Constitution like the back of his hand) administered the Oath of Office to the President as stated in Article 2, Section 1 of the Constitution! However, when he did so, he made a mistake in the words which we all learned in Constitution class in 8th grade and also before we could graduate high school. It was not the President who screwed up, it was the Chief Justice. When hearing these words, the President did stop to think about what was being said, because it probably didn't sound right, which was probably because it wasn't right!
Look to see if you can see the difference.
44th President's Inauguration:
I, Barack Hussein Obama, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will execute the Office of the President to the United States, faithfully. And will, to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. So help me God!
What it's supposed to sound like:
I, Barack Hussein Obama, do solemny swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States. And will, to the best of my ability, preserve, protect and defend the Constitution of the United States. So help me God!
I just thought it ironic that a Chief Justice of the Supreme Court would get the words wrong. And I found it equally funny that the media couldn't tell that he did so, blaming the President (who has his shit together) of stumbling on the words.
