BEWARE THE IDES OF MARCH

It always gets me that February is a short month. I never know when it has 28 or 29 days. It confuses me. I think it was like, 2000, 2004, 2008, 2012 or something like that. But I do love March, because it is the sign that the snow is going to end soon. And spring can resume with its raining down on us, with fresh flowers in April and May, and then summer can come with the hot summer nights, and sweet romances. Full moons, moonlit walks on the beach or in the park and lightning bugs filling the sky's in June and July. The winter cold is quickly turning, and I get excited by March.

It is also a time when I look back at the winter blahs as a time when I can look back at the time I just stayed in, because it was too cold to venture out to have fun! I can do that again! I don't have to be a slave to the internet anymore, because there is more to do in the city than I had time or inclination to do while it was just too cold out to do. I didn't want to clean off the snow from my car, or freeze my nuts off in the crisp winter air, waiting to get into a club.

March will always be indelibly marked as the line from that play I learned in 8th grade, about Julius Caesar, "Beware the Ides of March." That was the day that Julius Caesar was assassinated in 44 B.C. after declaring himself the dictator of Rome. The Ides of March actually denotes the 15th of March.

So yeah, March is a time I look forward to new beginnings. Reflecting on the past, and looking forward to new things. Good things. Positive things. I will be getting my job soon, so I will begin saving up for the trip to New Zealand and hopefully Emma can come with me! I can't wait until next winter now, to see that country in all of its splendor. I have even managed to check into flights and costs, so I can map out the journey, where I'd like to visit, and what sights I would like to see. I have my guide book, and my culture book on the country. I suppose I should have taken a closer look at that before I started talking to a couple New Zealander's and offended? I don't know.

I am not beating myself up about it anymore. It makes no sense to do so. All I can do is look forward... not behind me. March is a good month.

April Fools Day will be so much fun to blog about... if you don't know, it will be a surprise. Be prepared to be fooled! :-)
